LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Summer is finally in our back window which means hunting season is in full swing across the country! While everyone is looking forward to cooler temps and Fall weather, prepping for epic hunts, and packing their hunting gear, our teams are also still covering miles on the road as we also wrap up fishing events nationwide. But no doubt, we’ve been looking forward to hunting season, so we’re still getting hunts in between these fishing tournaments. Like many other Fall seasons, we are testing new products, making new friends in new hunting camps, as well as spending time with old friends at our camp. Throughout this issue, as well as shared across our social media, you’ll find reviews and launches of new products from our partners, items you’ll need in the field and why they are must-haves, and of course, some winter boat care tips. Looking ahead, we’re excited to be working with Ranger Boats and Yamaha to rig out a new saltwater boat… we’ll be on the big water soon looking for some exciting big fish catches. We’re also climbing up in tree stands in Kansas with our Yamaha Outdoors partners in the coming weeks, and testing out new products from our friends at TenPoint Crossbows and Smith & Wesson – so all in all, we’re busy in the outdoors, loving every minute of it, and will bring you more hunting tales and product reviews soon.

Garmin Unveils Xero C1 Pro Chronograph Shot velocity made simple, small and stunningly accurate
Garmin announced the Xero® C1 Pro, a pocket sized chronograph that accurately measures projectile velocities from 100 to 5,000 feet per second. Remarkably fast and simple to set up, Xero C1 Pro features a button-operated design and intuitive user interface. Thanks to the new ShotView™ smartphone app, comprehensive velocity data is organized and easily accessible directly from the user’s phone. “With the Xero C1 Pro, Garmin is proud to introduce a new benchmark for chronograph technology. Combining performance and reliability into a pocket-sized package, this highly adaptable device represents the innovation and accuracy that has become synonymous with Garmin engineering. Just shoot and immediately receive
speed data and statistics for that string of shots. Simply put, gone are the days of cumbersome, fussy chronograph setups and missed shots.” – Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales
ACCURACY THROUGH INNOVATION
In addition to bullets, Xero C1 Pro can capture velocity data for arrows, crossbow bolts, shotgun slugs, and paintballs – as well as airsoft devices. During a shooting session, Xero C1 Pro will display the speed of the projectile and shot count, average speed, as well as standard deviation and extreme spread after each shot. Once the session is complete, the unit will provide an on-screen Session Summary including the minimum, maximum, and average speed of the shots, as well as extreme spread and standard deviation. Users can even customize the display to show Power Factor and Kinetic Energy when projectile grain weight is entered.
DEDICATED SHOTVIEW APP After a shooting session is complete, the device will automatically sync with the new ShotView app. This easy-to-use app provides shot data in organized data fields for rapid interpretation. Shot data includes speed, deviation, extreme spread, kinetic energy and more. Users can mark shots as clean/cold bore as well as exclude outliers from session calculations. In addition, users can create custom names for each session and add detailed notes for both specific shots and the entire session. Users can set their sights on a Xero C1 Pro chronograph now for a suggested retail price of $599.99.

Smaller than a deck of cards (3” x 2.8” x 1.4”) and weighing just over 100 grams, the chronograph is small enough to slip into the pocket of a range bag. Xero C1 Pro is range-ready, rain or shine, due to its button-operated design, IPX71 water resistant rating, and sunlight-readable, high contrast display. And, thanks to a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, users can get data for up to 2,000 shots on a single charge.

Five Reasons You Need a Garmin inReach on Your Next Adventure
The places we love to explore are many things. They’re beautiful, exciting, mysterious and wonderful. They capture our hearts and our minds and often leave an indelible mark on our lives. However, on a different day those same places can be dangerous and lonely, and they don’t always play by the rules. That’s not to be an alarmist. It’s meant to be honest, which is the best thing you can do when you discuss your place in the outdoors. Garmin has been in the outdoor business for 30+ years, helping people navigate in some of the most remote places on Earth. With satellite communication and SOS services increasingly ending up in people’s pockets, we’re glad, because as people push boundaries, venturing off the beaten path and making the world smaller, we hope everyone — regardless of the device they use — makes it back home to loved ones.
Not all satellite communicators are created equally, though. Here are several reasons why inReach® satellite communicators1 serve a critical need for your next adventure. 1. TRUST When building your outdoor kit, there is no room for outdoor products that don’t do their job. Over time, you whittle down the products you take to those you know you can depend on. In short, you take the products you can trust. Part of Garmin’s mission is to create “superior products … that are an essential part of our customers’ lives.” This is why you continually see Garmin inReach devices being used at the highest levels of recreation on land, air and sea. They’re products people – you – can trust and depend on. This trust has been earned through countless hours spent outdoors by individuals
throughout the world.
and functionalities from almost anywhere in the world. Find out which device is right for you based on your favorite activities. Whichever inReach device you choose, know that it is going to be a device that can stand up to nearly anything you throw at it, because they are built to handle the extremes. They have to operate on Denali the same way they would in Denver, as proven by this recent SOS rescue story. Because like you, the outdoors is its home and where it’s most comfortable. 3. BATTERY LIFE There are few things more disheartening than starting a trip out, looking down and seeing you’re on a quarter tank of gas. It’s the same with battery life on your electronic devices, which is why Garmin has increasingly dedicated engineering resources to the longevity of battery life on its outdoor products. For example, inReach Messenger has up to 28 days in battery life in default 10-minute tracking mode, and even longer if you change the update rate. If I can get my phone to last more than a day, I’m lucky. Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking they’ll have an emergency in the afternoon. That’s the problem: you never know when you’ll need inReach, so you need it all the time. Thanks to the robust battery life, it’ll be ready.
As a witness to this trust, in December 2022, Garmin inReach reached the milestone of assisting with more than 10,000 SOS incidents thanks to its two-way communication and SOS functionality. Learn who uses inReach devices and why SOS incidents are declared. 2. PURPOSE BUILT If you work on cars, it’s nice to keep a multitool around. They’re handy, and they’re a good average of the tool you need for simple tasks. Really, it’s better than nothing. But sometimes you need a wrench because the multitool pliers aren’t going to get around that bolt when you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. In short, sometimes you need the right tool for the job, and for those who venture off the beaten path, inReach is that tool. inReach devices have many functions and can do many different jobs, so in a sense they are multi-faceted, but inReach is a tool that has been honed following feedback from countless customers and more than a decade of in-field experience. Every feature is an expert in what it does. All Garmin inReach devices have core feature pillars – two-way global messaging, SOS through Garmin Response SM , tracking, location sharing and the ability to be used without a cellphone. After this, you start seeing how inReach devices are purpose-built for different use cases/ audiences and why someone would buy a particular device. Garmin’s full lineup of handheld satellite communicators deliver a lot of powerful features
Other battery life (in standard tracking) statistics:
inReach® Messenger: up to 28 days inReach® Mini 2: up to 14 days GPSMAP® 67i: up to 165 hours See all inReach® devices
4. ANYTIME, TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION Two-way communication is a core feature on all inReach products and thanks to the device’s use of the Iridium network, this communication extends globally. Positioned in the sky to provide stronger signals and faster connections, the Iridium® network2 allows inReach satellite communicators to relay messages, get weather forecasts, and navigate and trigger SOS alerts — even when you and your device are well out of range of cellphone towers or line-of-sight radio communications. Because Garmin inReach devices offer two-way communication, in emergencies, you can be confident in knowing you won’t be alone. However, we hope you never have to use an inReach for an emergency. We just prefer you send a text telling the kids goodnight, updating friends on the progress of your trip or just reaching out to chat at the end of a long day. With inReach’s anytime, two-way communication, you can bring your whole family along on your trip, even when you’re alone. Two-way communication on Garmin inReach is there both when you want it and when you need it. For added connectivity, pair your inReach device with compatible Garmin devices including watches, cycling computers and chartplotters. 5. GARMIN RESPONSE Based in Montgomery, Texas, the 24/7 Garmin Response team maintains a global database of local first responders, enabling them to quickly reach out to the most appropriate rescue service or other resources in time-critical emergency situations. Through your account, you can save emergency contacts and notes that might be helpful for an emergency response, such as a trip itinerary, medical conditions, allergies, etc. No matter the time, no matter the situation.
In the event of an SOS, Garmin Response will be able to view this information and reach out to your emergency contacts to inform them of your situation. You can count on the Garmin Response staff to use their experience to your advantage — and offer support in multiple languages — if you’re ever in need of emergency assistance. 1 Active satellite subscription required. Some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices. It is the responsibility of the user to know and follow all applicable laws in the jurisdictions where the device is intended to be used. 2 To access the Iridium satellite network for live tracking and messaging, including SOS capabilities, an active satellite subscription is required Learn what happens when you press an SOS

HOW TO ACCURATELY SHOOT A REVERSE-DRAW CROSSBOW bouncing. If you can’t grip the fore-grip, make sure you hold the bipod, tripod, etc. securely. Shooting offhand there’s not as much “bounce” since you are already holding the crossbow at the fore-grip and pulling it into your shoulder.
When shooting a reverse-draw crossbow accurately, you need to be aware of why and how the crossbow will react when being shot. If shooting off of a rest, there are certain techniques that can help you achieve tighter shot groupings. When Shooting from a Bench, Rest, Lead Sled, or Sandbag You Must Hold the Fore-Grip Tightly with Your Off Hand. Pass-thru fore-grips are a big advantage with this type of shooting since you may be able to get most, if not all, of your hand through it. By putting your hand inside the fore-grip you should be able to put a good amount of downward pressure on the fore-grip to keep the front-end from bouncing when you shoot. When Shooting Off of a Clamp-On/Clamp-In Style Rest, Hold the Front of the Crossbow Securely Just bringing the crossbow back into and tight to the shoulder isn’t going to stop the front-end from

Garmin unveils Force Kraken, expands its award-winning trolling motor series to a wider range of boats
trolling motor and more.” –Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales.
Garmin, the world’s most innovative and recognized marine electronics manufacturer, today announced Force® Kraken, the most powerful trolling motor1 the recreational fishing market has ever seen. Coupled with Garmin’s most precise anchor lock technology, Kraken is designed with longer shaft lengths and a pivot style mount for easy installation on boats where bow space is limited, like skiffs, bay boats, center consoles and multispecies fishing boats. EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF THE KRAKEN TROLLING MOTOR HERE. “We are excited to build on the success of our Force trolling motor and bring new mounting options and features to even more anglers in both the saltwater and inland markets. From power and durability to integration and innovation, Kraken has everything anglers want and need from their
POWER THAT LASTS Kraken’s brushless motor uses a high-efficiency propeller to produce 100 pounds of thrust on a 36-volt system, or 80 pounds on a 24-volt system. It can move anglers from one mangrove or reef to the next more quickly, throttle back with ease when they need to fish slow and stand up better to winds and currents in rough open water conditions. Even with all that power, Kraken is extremely efficient so anglers can count on it to fish all day. It’s also whisper quiet above and below the water and less likely to spook the fish. ULTIMATE PRECISION AND ADVANCED BOAT CONTROL
Utilizing multi-band GPS signal reception
LEADING SONAR INTEGRATION Select Kraken models include a built-in GT56UHD all-in-one transducer with Ultra High-Definition ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar along with CHIRP traditional sonar for brilliant image clarity of structure and fish below and to the sides of the boat. Additional Garmin transducers can be added and no matter the sonar setup, Kraken’s brushless motor technology allows for clear returns with extremely low levels of unwanted noise from electrical and mechanical interference. For the first time in the industry, anglers can install forward-facing sonar, like LiveScope™, on a pivot-style trolling motor by conveniently routing the transducer cable inside the trolling motor shaft thanks to Kraken’s new LiveScope cable management system. With the Kraken LiveScope Mounting Bracket (additional purchase required), any LiveScope transducer can be installed and operated in all three modes—forward, down and perspective. This can keep the LiveScope cable safe from damage during stow or deploy and can keep the trolling motor and deck space clean and free of clutter.
and integrated AHRS (attitude and heading reference system) for heading hold, Kraken delivers Garmin’s most precise boat positioning technology to help keep the boat in one place. In calm conditions, the Kraken can decelerate the motor when it’s within approximately one meter of the user-selected location. And in rough conditions, Kraken can apply more aggressive motor speed for improved performance on larger boats. Wireless integration with Garmin chartplotters allows anglers to create routes, patterns and tracks for the trolling motor to follow while they fish, and a new illuminated arrow on the trolling motor head can allow anglers to confirm the boat’s heading at a glance. Anglers can also use the included wireless remote to help navigate from anywhere in the boat. The remote can give anglers control of the Kraken trolling motor with precise virtual anchor lock, autopilot functionality, heading hold and point-and-go gesture steering—plus it floats. What’s more, a compatible Garmin smartwatch, like the award-winning quatix® 7 series, can also be connected to Kraken to control steering, anchor lock and more, right from the wrist.
ROBUST AND RELIABLE DESIGN BACKED BY AWARD-WINNING SUPPORT Led by decades of marine industry expertise and innovation, Kraken is engineered for harsh marine environments and built to withstand the rigors of extreme fishing conditions. The propeller is designed with a thinner leading edge to reduce resistance and maximize thrust, while the trailing edge is engineered to decrease aeration of the water that can cause cavitation and interfere with thrust. Rugged and durable, the sturdy composite shaft and all components have advanced corrosion and saltwater protection. It’s backed by a 3-year limited warranty and a lifetime limited warranty on the shaft, along with support through an ever-increasing servicing dealer network. Garmin has a long-standing commitment to build products that offer a compelling design and superior quality, and the Kraken trolling motor is no exception. For eight consecutive years, Garmin has been recognized as the Manufacturer of the Year by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA), an honor given to the most recognized marine electronics company for support of products in the field. PRICING AND AVAILABILITY The Force Kraken trolling motor is debuting at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), in Orlando, Fla., July 11-14, where it will be on display in booth #4802. Expected to be available in October, Kraken will be offered in white in 63-, 75- and 90-inch shaft lengths, or black in 63- and 75-inch lengths. Both black Kraken models are sold with a GT56UHD transducer. Suggested retail prices range from $3699.99 to $4299.99. For more information, visit garmin.com/force.
THERE’S A NEW LEGEND TO BEHOLD The Force Kraken trolling motor is engineered with a longer shaft for boats with high freeboards and a pivot-style mount for easy installation in vessels where bow space is limited.

NEW Tepa Tapered FC Leader
Tepa is a 100% fluorocarbon leader that combines two lb tests into one leader with a proprietary tapered design. These leaders are uniquely manufactured to taper from a larger lb test to a smaller lb test from one end of the leader to the other end. This benefit allows an angler to use an upsized lb test on either end for applications where a larger or smaller leader is needed. For example, the larger size can be tied to a lure when an angler wants to have greater strength and abrasion resistance at his knot and the first part of the leader. The line then tapers down to a smaller size for joining to the mainline braid. Alternately, the larger end could also be tied to the mainline knot connection to provide greater strength and abrasion resistance at the knot while the leader tapers down to a smaller size at the lure knot for fish that are wary of line size. The tapered structure of this leader allows an angler to strengthen either the knot area or mainline connection of a leader without having to upsize the whole leader.
PRODUCT FEATURES
• 100% Fluorocarbon leader
• Sunline proprietary taper manufacturing technology
• Allows anglers to upsize either end of their leader connection
• Increase your leader strength while still maintaining the lowest diameter possible
• Can be used in either direction for multiple benefits

Yamaha outboard owners enrolled in the program will have more opportunities than ever before to earn money through Power Pay!” “There’s a real simple reason I wanted a Yamaha; my dad is an outboard mechanic, he owns Vintson Marine on Smith Lake, and he’ll tell you they work on Yamahas far less than any other brand,” emphasizes Vintson. Anthony Vintson of northern Alabama helped put Yamaha Power Pay contingency payouts over the $1 million mark with his 7th place finish during a recent Alabama Bass Team Trail event on Wheeler Lake. Vintson, who served eight years in the U.S. Army, most of which as part of the 101st Airborne Division, became President of the Auburn Bass Fishing Team while earning a degree in accounting and finance. He now spends his days working at a public accounting firm and loves to compete in Alabama Bass Team Trail events. His recent 7th place finish at Wheeler was good enough to make him the Power Pay winner who ultimately pushed payouts of the four-year-old program to more than a million dollars paid-out to registered tournament anglers. “As the Yamaha Power Pay program reaches this incredible milestone of $1 million in payouts, we would like to thank our angler customers for their loyalty to the Yamaha brand,” said Connor Megan, Pro Staff and Sponsorship Supervisor, Yamaha Marine Engine Systems. “We plan to continue the Power Pay momentum by adding more ALABAMA ANGLER PUTS YAMAHA POWER PAY BONUSES OVER $1 MILLION
