Americana Outdoors E-Magazine - May 2019
As day two dawned the fishing conditions were al- most perfect as the teams launched a mix of Ya- maha powered bass boats onto the waters of Lake Amistad. With the bass in all depths ranging from one to 30 feet the team of Middleton and Newby adopted a “catch every bass they could” strategy targeting shallow bushes in an effort to stem furi- ous comeback attempts from the big fish catching talents of the other teams. Both Hanselman and Combs are known for catching big fish on Lake Amistad and it was expected by everyone they would both mount a charge. With the fish biting a mix of baits the team of Reynolds and Nana actually got off to the best start catching a couple of solid fish to kick off the day, Combs and Dryer went on a tear catching fish almost at will while Hanselman and Villopoto were steadily catching fish while Middleton and Newby steadily held fast to targeting every fish that would bite in shallow water. Around mid-day, it became apparent that all the teams were catching them, and the leaderboard was changing almost minute by minute. In the end, Team Middleton and Newby held off a charging comeback from Combs and Dwyer to take the 2nd annual championship.
