LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
It sure seems hard to believe that we are saying goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022 in a few days. On that note, as we look back at 2021 in this last edition of the year you will find a great mix of content in this edition from reviews of new boats, crossbows, sights, spinnerbaits, and more. In addition, we take a quick look at travel to one of the most legendary lakes in all of Mexico while also looking ahead at what is to come and is available for all of you to use and play with in 2022. For me personally, as I write this, I am looking at my calendar and I have got to say it’s exciting! I am packing for a few final deer hunts to include a couple of new products that I am anxious to see. I am also deep in thought on planning for the upcoming college events, and I am in the final stages of rigging and preparing a new boat for the 2022 season (which is always exciting). 2022 is setting up to be an awesome year ahead!

Be ready at a moment’s notice by using our most advanced auto-ranging digital bow sight yet. With a fast and easy to set up, giving you line of sight feedback to take your best shot every time. Garmin introduced the Xero™ A1i Pro, the latest advancement in its revolutionary autoranging digital bow sight Xero series. Amplifying the innovative Garmin Xero A1i, the newly designed Pro version provides archers with micro-adjustments and autocalibration for an extremely fast setup, as well as a dovetail attachment and detachable trigger for easy transport. New A1i Pro aiming features, like Dynamic Level, Flight Apex, and XD Mode help archers shoot more accurately than ever before. “The Xero A1i changed archery forever with autoranging and precision aiming. Today, with the launch of Xero A1i Pro, we are proud to say our best XERO® A1i Pro Newest advancement in digital bow sights offers archers an intuitive setup and advanced accuracy features
shot just got better,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “The new A1i Pro combines the hunting and archery passions of Garmin engineers with customer feedback and innovative technology to provide archers with new tools they can depend on when needed most.” Xero A1i Pro Redesigned Mount
Archers know fine-tuning adjustments on their sight for accuracy can be time-consuming.
Thanks to the newly designed, micro adjustable rails on A1i Pro, archers can now make quick, precise (.35 MOA) changes to elevation, windage, pitch, and yaw—allowing for both faster first pin setup and laser alignment when sighting in. The A1i Pro now offers adjustments for sight roll (2nd axis) correction and a removable dovetail with two position options for better sizing to a user’s peep sight when mounting to the bow. Traveling hunters or archers shooting multiple bows will find the new “quick detach” system on the A1i Pro dovetail rail mount particularly useful. To remove the Xero A1i Pro, simply remove a single screw from the bow riser and unplug the new quick-release trigger cable from the sight housing.
new dynamic level feature provides indicators within the sight window to display if the bow is not sufficiently level to execute an accurate shot at the ranged distance. Designed for hunting environments, this feature allows archers to remain focused wholly on target, instead of having to take their eyes off their pin to check their level.
Xero A1i Pro Auto Calibration
If hunting in heavier cover with potential obstructions such as branches, the Flight Apex features provides a flashing dot indicating the arrow’s highest point during flight to help the archer know if their arrow will fly above or below a potential obstruction.
With the new Xero A1i Pro autocalibration feature, archers can calibrate the sight out to the max range of their setup with only a few arrows. After mechanically setting a 20-yard pin, archers can enter or estimate their bow’s chronograph speed, and the sight will autogenerate a pin stack. The archer then validates the stack by shooting a few arrows at a distance of 40 yards or more, and the setup is complete. This validation step ensures a true ballistic match of the arrow, and it’s fast and easy to revalidate if the setup changes later.
During practice, A1i Pro makes punching targets out to extended distances easier than ever before through the new Xtra Distance (XD) Mode. Once XD Mode is enabled, the archer simply loosens the set screw on the vertical rail and dials the sight into a lower position with the micro adjust knobs, and follows the instruction steps provided on the sight
New A1i Pro Aiming Features
Using real-time accelerometer data, the A1i Pro’s
display. This allows the archer to shoot out to longer distances, provided they still have arrow vane clearance under the sight. Most archers will get an extra 10-15 yards on the sight’s max shooting range in this mode. When done, the archer simply puts the sight back into the base position via the on-screen prompts.
Wade’s Thoughts on the XERO A1i Pro
“Technology has so vastly changed the world that we live in and hunting is no different. I look at what the Garmin Xero has done to be able to range your animals or your targets out there and with better accuracy than ever before. Garmin’s new sight (Xero A1i Pro) has defined how to set the sight up to make it even better. This bow sight is the most intuitive of the Garmin Xero sights, as far as I’m concerned, because the setup process is totally different than the previous model. You’ve got more mechanical options to be able to dial in pinpoint accuracy, you can tell it how fast your bow is shooting so you can help set and speed up some of the processes, and the entire screen is all built-in with everything in needed to set it up. So technologically, I’m shooting a phenomenal bow sight this year. BUT you always have to remember in bow hunting, and really in anything, you can have the best technology in the world, but the human still has to control his emotions, he still has to perform when it is time to take that shot and harvest an animal.”

WHAT MAKES A SOFT SIDED COOLER SUPERIOR?
You probably have some kind of cooler in your home right now. After all, this is an essential item for camping, tailgating, even for just taking a road trip. A cooler is one of those items that everyone has because it’s so highly useful in so many ways. But it’s also likely that you have a hard cooler, or a hard-sided cooler, in your home. It’s time to find out why a soft sided cooler is the better option and how it differs from those other coolers you’ve used in the past. Why Choose a Soft Sided Cooler? Hard coolers often come with cool features like built-in drink holders and drainage spouts, so you can easily get rid of water left behind by ice. However, a hard cooler may not be your best option when you need to keep food and drinks cool during a camping trip or some other outdoor or cross- country adventure. There are many advantages to using a soft sided cooler instead. There are lots of reasons why soft side coolers are superior to other designs.
of items, it can be folded up and put away. You can store many soft sided coolers in the same space where only one hard cooler would fit before. As you drink the beverages and eat the food in your soft sided cooler, it will become smaller thanks to the design. And when it’s empty, it can be folded to take up very little room. This is truly a superior design because it’s easy to carry and much more portable than hard coolers. Soft sided coolers can be used to store everything you need for any type of camping trip or outdoor adventure. These coolers can also be used as live bait coolers when you’re going on a fishing trip! Half of all campers said they have a love of the outdoors and that’s why they enjoy going camping. You’ll enjoy camping a whole lot more when you have good equipment tat’s light in weight and easy to carry. It’s much easier to take a soft cooler with you, or several, for any camping adventure you might have planned. The Accessories You Need for Your Soft Sided Cooler
To begin with, a soft sided cooler is typically much lighter in weight than a hard sided cooler that’s made with thick plastic walls. That means it’smuch easier to carry. Soft sided coolers are also often made with carrying handles and straps included, which makes them easy to carry and manage. The biggest advantage of a soft sided cooler is that it’s collapsible. That means when it isn’t full
There are ways to beef up your soft sided cooler and make it even more efficient at keeping your items cool. Get some performance drinkware to keep your beverages cool as well. Insulated tumblers work wonders at keeping drinks cold or hot, even in extreme temperature conditions. carry
some of these with you along with your soft sided cooler to enjoy beverages that stay hot or cold as desired. Having a good cooler with you is a little bit like having a portable fridge freezer! Get soft coolers in multiple sizes. After all, they’re easy to store so you can keep several of them on hand. This way, you can have a soft cooler for tailgating, camping, or anything else you might want to do! Having a selection of sizes means that you’ll have the perfect cooler for whatever you might have planned, whether it’s a day trip in the car or an extended weekend out in the woods. You’ll be ready for anything and well-prepared for whatever might be on your agenda.

Watch our full review on the BlackOut NV-32
The NEW Blackout N-V 32 comes off the shelf as basically a bare bones setup which will allow you to customize it exactly for your own particular needs when it comes to sights, rests and other accessories that fit your style. This bow is very adjustable in so many ways so that it will be able to fit you personally which is a key aspect to being accurate. From being able to use half-inch increments to set it up for the particular draw length all the way to personalizing it for your preferred draw weight and the accessories. You can do this all right at your Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s. Some of the great features you’ll notice on the Blackout NV-32 is the well-designed dampening system and the fact the entire bow is very compact for basically any type of shooting situation that you’re going to find from tree stands, ground blinds to box blinds. The bow offers options on the colors between an all-black finish or what I particularly like, which is the True Timber Strata finish. For me when it came time to finish out my bow, I started with the all-new Garmin Xero A1i Pro bow sight. When it came to the rest, I choose a QAD drop-away rest. I further accessorized it with a Blackout stabilizer. This new BlackOut NV-32 bow is going to be something you’re going to see us hunting with this season and share our journey with this particular bow. UMAREX HAMMER .50 CALIBER BIG BORE PCP HUNTING RIFLE
The .50 caliber Umarex Hammer Airgun Hunting Rifle didn’t alter the laws of physics. It just took advantage of them. The Umarex Hammer’s primary objective was to accelerate a greater mass faster using technology, ingenuity, innovation, and the big .510 caliber barrel. This unparalleled air rifle will push a 550-grain slug to 760 FPS and generate 705 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle. Unlike a traditional firearm, the Hammer doesn’t generate a comparable report or recoil signature. A shooter in a big game hunting situation will not need to wear hearing protection when shooting the Umarex Hammer. The recoil of this big bore air rifle can best be described as a firm push, not a sharp kick like a powder burning rifle would give. Its dual-chamber precision magazine means you’ll have an immediate follow-up shot if needed and each Umarex Hammer comes with two magazines. The Umarex Hammer is not just another air rifle. It’s in an air rifle hunting class all by itself.

Check Out Bill’s Garmin Off Shore Setup!
On Americana Outdoors Presented by Garmin, we’re going on an action packed offshore fishing adventure with Bill Platt and team Papotanic! The goal today is to hit the water bright and early to set sail across the Gulf of Mexico in search of large amberjacks, wahoos, cobia, and maybe even some large blackfin tuna! Team Papotanic is looking to cover close to three hundred miles round trip for this expedition, and the use of both Yamaha and Garmin electronics will give them peace of mind as they make that lengthy journey. At the helm of Bill’s boat we’ll find it decked out with two Garmin GPSMAP® 8616 units , a Garmin GSD™ 26 CHIRP Professional Sonar Module, and of course, the latest version of the Helm Master® EX from Yamaha . Throughout the day we’ll see how Bill uses these tools in conjunction with one another for superior boat control, navigating the waters, finding the big fish, and for staying on top of the fish. To kick things off, the guys drop lines to catch dozens of live bait before they start looking for the big amberjacks. Once they have enough bait-fish in the boat, it’s game on in the battle of endurance against these monster sized fish. One after one, the crew puts everything they have into reeling in some larger than life amberjacks, each one followed by a celebration for a job well done. After having a pretty successful morning, the team have their sights set on catching even bigger fish, and bigger fish, means bigger bait. Using the Yamaha HelmMaster® EX, Bill and the crewmake their way over to another location near a shrimping boat with the intention of reeling in larger bonito fish as bait. Surrounded by a school of sharks and plenty of fish, it’s here where they set their sights on a gorgeous black fin tuna lurking below. After putting in a good hour of work at this location, Johnny Walker finally gets a hook in the tuna’s mouth, and it’s a battle of sheer will to get him in the boat. As Team Papotanic comes up on the end of an exhausting but exhilarating day of fishing, Bill hooks a behemoth of an amberjack deep below the water’s surface. Tune in and find out if Bill wins this battle, or if the monster amberjack will break loose and become another fisherman’s tale!

COLLEGE KIDS TAKE HOME $1 MILLION IN BASS PRO SHOPS US OPEN NATIONAL BASS FISHING CHAMPIONSHIP
Logan Parks, 23, and Tucker Smith, 20, fishing buddies and Auburn University students from Shoal Creek, Ala., saw their life-changing dreams come true on Sunday on the waters of Missouri’s Table Rock Lake, claiming the $1 million first-place prize at the Johnny Morris Bass Pro Shops U.S. Open National Bass Fishing Amateur Team Championships. Logan and Tucker bested a field of 350 teams that qualified for the three-day National Championship, hauling in five fish for a Sunday-best 16.41 pounds, setting off a wild celebration while confetti rained down at Long Creek Marina at Big Cedar Lodge – America’s Premier Wilderness Resort. In addition to the life-changing $1 million, both Logan and Tucker were awarded an all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra and a Toyota Extra Care Platinum Vehicle Services Agreement to go with it, and a 21-foot bass boat. “We are excited to make some dreams come true!” Johnny Morris said. “The competition on Table Rock Lake this weekend was tremendous. Congratulations to our winners and every angler who fished this tournament. Their enthusiasm and love of fishing, nature and conservation has been a driving force in our company’s 50-year history. “We’re incredibly grateful for these anglers, our Kids Fishin’ Contest winners and the winners of our Missouri Veterans Fishin’ Contest, presented in partnership with the Missouri Division of Tourism,” Morris continued. “Throughout this grand tournament, we tried our best to honor the sport of fishing throughout the country. We are incredibly grateful for everyone involved in making this tournament a success especially our presenting sponsors and partners in conservation at Toyota.” “We’re speechless. To win a tournament of this caliber is amazing,” Tucker Smith said after an emotional celebration. “We’d like to thank JohnnyMorris, Bass Pro Shops, Toyota and everyone that helped organize this great tournament. After the first two days of the competition, we didn’t think we’d be the last team standing – it’s incredible.” “Tucker and I think alike when it comes to catching fish and have good chemistry as teammates,” said Logan Parks. “Throughout the day, we tried not to think about the grand prize. Instead, we focused on being out on the water and having fun. Everything just seemed to work out. Thank you, Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops.” Read the rest of the story here.

Americana Outdoors sat down with owner of Lago Vista Lodge Dicky Norris and asked him some of the most frequently asked questions about how one goes about taking a trip down to Mexico for Trophy Bass on the famed Lake Guerrero! WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT LAKE GUERRERO? DN: For bass fishing, well, fish have to eat year round so keep that in mind when planning a trip, but I’d say October through April are the best months at a chance to catch a giant bass however on any cast at anytime of the year you might land the catch of your life. WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I’M ON THE WATER DURING THE DAY? DN: Our guides work with our clients to find what fits their skill sets and matches the time on water to that. Whether we’re fishing top waters in the morning or dragging worms mid day we want to ensure it’s what fits for that person. We will leave the camp when you’re ready and return when you’re ready. We will navigate the lake to find fish based on seasonal conditions and our guides will do their best to keep you always around the fish regardless of if you want to fish for 8 hours or 2 hours during that day. WHAT’S A TYPICAL DAY, SCHEDULE WISE AT LAGO VISTA LODGE? DN: Something our clients really love when they visit, is there isn’t really a set schedule. Our customers make their own schedule as we’ve found not everyone has the same goals on their trips and we want the trip to Lago Vista Lodge to be about what they want . Get up when you want, fish when you want, and eat when you want so the bottom line is we’re here to cater to you’re needs and timelines. WHAT DO I NEEDTO BRINGTO LAKE GUERRERO? DN: Of course the appropriate clothing, shades, sunscreen and other personal items relevant to the
season and forecasted weather. Clients also need to bring their own fishing gear and tackle. We’re happy to provide insight on packing and gear prior to your visit, and we also have a tackle shop with lots of baits and other items available for purchase once you arrive or anytime during your stay. HOW MANY FOLKS CAN COME IN A GROUP? DN: Depending on the availability of your desired time, you can reserve the entire lodge for a groups up to 16 and have the whole facility to yourself. HOW SAFE IS IT TO TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE LAKE NOW? DN: It’s really a misconception that it’s not safe to travel here. We’ve been hosting and guiding fishing and hunting trips for decades…you won’t have any problems with your visit. KAMIKAZE SWIMON
The Kamikaze Swimon (pronounced “swim on”) was designed specifically to be used as a bladed jig trailer. It swims at the perfect cadence to match up with bladed jigs, complimenting the action rather than interfering like some trailers do. Other ways to fish this bait include behind a spinnerbait or swim jig, or flip it like a craw.

Learn About the New SPRO Carbon Blade with Pro Michael Neal
Because most bass anglers would fish 365/24/7 if they could, SPRO® expands their fishing season for when the water gets colder and the bass gets harder to entice. Spro’s new Carbon Blade baits offer an assortment of lure designs so anglers can easily modify them to enhance the baits for any fishing situation. Available in two sizes 1/2 and 3/8 ounce, and in 15 different colors, savvy anglers will have extreme versatility and nearly limitless combinations at their disposal. “Blade baits have proven to be effective for colder water use, and the carbon fiber blank we use for the lure’s body along with tungsten head and Gamakatsu hooks combine for a great lure,” said SPRO’s Syd Rives. “But at SPRO, we take it all a step more by offering three connections points on the body, allowing anglers to go from a deep, tight action on the front, to shallower use with the middle connection point, and even to an aggressive light retrieve for a fall fishing vertical yo-yo retrieve. The Carbon Blade will cover it all.” The 15 colors offered on all three sizes feature colors for bass fishing water from east to west, north to south, including Ayu, Crawfish Gold, Chrome Pink/Blue, Chrome, Delta Chrome, Gold Black, Icy Barbie, Magic Tiger, Nanko Reaction, Nasty Shad, Old Fire Tiger, Perch, Purple Rain, and Purple Tiger Chartreuse.
