WHY FACEPAINT IS BETTER THAN A MASK. BY ADAM ELMHORST
This question could start a good discussion with your buddies at deer camp - Camo Face Paint or A Face Mask? Some hunters would say face paint because of how hot a mask can be during the warmmonths of deer and turkey season. Hunters who wear glasses have told me that a mask fogs up there glasses and they constantly have to clean them. Regard- less of the reason face paint has the ability to be used in any hunting environment whether your in a oak forest in the Midwest or out on a wide open prairie in Montana, your face paint will have the colors you need to blend in. During deer bow season, face paint is your best bet as it won’t hinder your shooting form and you’ll generally be out there for longer periods of time. When it comes to turkey season, we like to move around a lot meaning we’ll sit against a tree, con- struct a make shift blind out of fallen branches, and if there is no action do it all again somewhere
else. In that scenario masking your face with paint will reduce the glare on your skin so that Big Tom won’t spot you when he comes into range. If you Waterfowl hunt, then you know face paint is the clear winner as ducks can spot a glaring un- covered face from the sky. Plus it’s kind of hard to use a duck call with a mask over your lips. So when you head out for your next hunt and are pondering whether or not to spend the time to paint an earthly palette of stealth on your face, think of these benefits that have been mentioned and get in the habit of being concealed and comfortable.
