Americana Outdoors E-Magazine - May 2019

Americana Outdoors ventured over to Bossier City, Louisiana to bring you coverage of the 7th annual Bass Pro Shops U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship! Founded by John Paul Morris, this competition has catapulted bowfishing into the tournament spotlight and paved the way for bowfishing to become one of the fastest growing water sports today. This year, 118 teams from 23 states competed in the tournament. At this event, we had the exciting opportunity to browse through the most efficient bows and gear there is for you to use, and enjoyed getting a first hand look at what’s in store for the latest models of top of the line bowfishing boats in the industry! The location for this event worked out perfectly, being the fishing hub that it is, there are not only a lot of fish but huge fish. Hosting the event in Louisiana brought a lot of local teams out the event as well as other teams from Texas and other states giving this a huge turnout despite the weather conditions. As it gets close to weigh in time, about 40 boats in we’re already at 400 pounds of fish that have been weighed in so far. A lot of giants have been catched allowing some teams to be recognized.
